Expedition Schedules

Within the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), the facility boards are responsible for scheduling expeditions in line with the goals established in the 2013-2023 IODP Science Plan. The JOIDES Resolution Facility Board oversees the operations of the JOIDES Resolution, the Chikyu IODP Board oversees the operations of the Ckikyu, and ECORD Facility Board oversees operations of the mission specific platforms. These facility boards typically meet once per year to establish short-term schedules and long-term plans, as well as to discuss data policies, publications, core curation, and other plans and policies.

The current IODP expedition schedule can be found on the IODP website, as well as on the websites of each of the platform operators. The long-term ship track for the JOIDES Resolution was most recently discussed at the JOIDES Resolution Facility Board Meeting in April 2014 (Consensus Item 6): “The JOIDES Resolution Facility Board reiterates that, based on current and anticipated proposal pressure, the JOIDES Resolution will follow a path from the western and southwestern Pacific Ocean, through the Southern Ocean, and into the Atlantic Ocean for opportunities for drilling there starting in 2018 and 2019.” The Chikyu IODP Board endorsed the continuation of NanTroSEIZE operations and designated both IBM and CRISP as Chikyu Projects (July 2013 CIB Meeting). The ECORD Facility Board plans to schedule an Arctic expedition in 2018 or 2017 and low cost expeditions prior to then (March 2014 EFB Meeting).
